Sperry Band Director Makayla West Honored with Induction into International Band Fraternity
Sperry High School Band director Makayla West was inducted into the Oklahoma Chapter of Phi Beta Mu at the OkMea 2024 Convention on January 20, 2024. Her official induction was conducted by Mrs. JoAnn Johnson, her High school Band Director, and assisted by Alane King, her mentor teacher as Sperry High School.
Phi Beta Mu is the International Bandmasters' Fraternity (ΦΒΜ), an international honorary fraternity for band directors. The fraternity was designed to honor outstanding band directors at the state level.
Ms. West was nominated as part of the January 2023 Phi Beta Mu business meeting. Throughout the year, and without Ms. West’s knowledge, her nominees gathered information on the success of her programs and the skill of her teaching. Then during the yearly business meeting her name and credentials were presented to the organization. Ms. West was accepted into the organization by a unanimous vote.
