Hi Everyone! This is Mrs. Daugherty, but as you know, everyone just calls me Mrs. D. I have been a proud Sperry Pirate for the past 15 years or so, and I have had many "hats" over those years. These have included: Special Education teacher, regular ed. teacher, MS cheer coach, MS student council sponsor, and bus driver. I still help out the Special Ed. department by keeping up on the notorious paperwork required by the State Department of Education. You may have often seen me at the concessions or gates at many of our athletic events. I like to keep busy wherever help is needed and to keep in contact with my students outside of classroom instruction. I am happily married and have raised three children of my own. I have one son and two daughters; each with their own unique educational abilities and skills. Rich and I are now busy grandparents of 10! Our grandkids range in age from 12 years to 8 weeks, with two of them living in ALASKA! I normally get to go see them at least once a year. So, as you can see, I have plenty of experience with children. I like to think that I don't treat students in my classroom any different than my own children/grandchildren. In my spare time (if I ever get any), I love to be outdoors, especially in the mountains! My husband and I are avid hunters and fishermen, with turkey hunting as my favorite! I like to fish, but I'm not very good at it. LOL We also like to go camping and taking our "buggy" out on the ATV trails. We are particularly fond of the Rocky Mountains in New Mexico and Colorado. I love animals of most kinds (I have a phobia of snakes) and used to ride horses as much as I could. Right now, we only have four cats and one dog. I have been in education for the past 26+ years. I started out substituting, then went into teaching GED classes in Tulsa. I was also the Director of Indian Education in Sapulpa for 5 years before I started teaching in a regular classroom. I was at Clyde Boyd Middle School in Sand Springs before I moved to Sperry. There I taught ED (emotionally disturbed) students for three years and then moved into the American History class for the next two or three. I have also taught classes out at the juvenile state prison in Sand Springs for one summer. I hope that you will feel comfortable knowing that I will be able to accommodate any and all learning styles within my classroom here at Sperry based on the teaching experiences that I have already had. I look forward to answering any other questions you might have. Hugs to my students, and I look forward to another exciting year. Mrs. D
