MS. GARRETT’S CLASS PROCEDURES

ARRIVAL:

Put your backpack in your cubby. Get your agenda binder out of your backpack.  If you brought a lunch, put it in the cart by the classroom door. Come into the classroom, placing your binder in the clear container on the floor between the blue circle table and puppet show. Walk to the pocket charts near the sink, find your picture name card in the middle pocket chart, and place your card into the yes or no pocket chart, depending on your answer to the question of the day. Go to one of the tables with a book to color or other activities. Show whatever you have been working on to Mrs. Blevins’ or Ms. Garrett. Afterwards get a book from the reading center or another coloring sheet and sit on the carpet or at a table.

CIRCLE TIME:

Sit on a rectangle on the carpet in “position one” (legs crossed, hands in lap, voices off).  Listen and participate in teacher-directed activity.

LEARNING CENTERS:

Take your name card with you to each center. Place your name card on one of the Velcro pieces in the center in which you are working. When you are finished, put the materials away and remove your name card. Then you may go to another center. If a center’s Velcro pieces are full of name cards, then you must choose another center.

CLEAN-UP:

The teacher will play a clean-up song at the end of Learning Center time. All children will help clean up the centers. When the centers are clean, place your name card back in your chart pocket, and sit on your rectangle on the rug.

RESTROOM:

If we are in Circle Time, hold up one finger to ask for permission to go to the restroom.  Take the “tag” from the hook by the sink. If you make a mess, clean it up or ask a teacher for help. Then return the tag to the hook and wash your hands with soap and water. If we are in centers, then you do not need to ask the teacher for permission. You may go as long as both restroom tags are on the hooks.

LUNCH:

Students will clean their hands before lining up to head to the cafeteria. Walk quietly in line with your class. Teachers will assist students with their lunch trays. Sit down on the bench where your class is assigned.  Do your best to eat without taking long breaks.  Time is limited in the cafeteria. Wait for a teacher to dismiss you from the table. Gather your trash and/or lunch tray. Put all of your trash in the trash can, including any leftover food from your lunch tray. Place your lunch tray gently on the counter. Lunch bags/boxes will be placed back in the cart before lining up for outside recess or carried by the child back to their cubby for inside recess. Line up by the wall shown by your teacher to go to recess.

SNACKS:

Sit at the table with your hands in your lap. Teacher announces who brought the snacks today. We say, “Thank you, _______.” Eat your snack and visit using “inside voices.” Use good table manners. Once you are finished eating, clean up by throwing your trash away.

PLAYGROUND:

Walk quietly in line with your class. Slide down slides feet first. Walk way around the swings. Never throw rocks. When a teacher blows a whistle, stop, look, and listen. Line up with your class when the teacher gives the signal.

DISMISSAL:

Put all your belongings and papers in your backpack. Listen for your name to be called to go to the adult picking you up at the back door of the EC building or the bus line.
