Sperry Public Schools Statement on State-Mandated Moment of Silence for Charlie Kirk

As the Superintendent of Sperry Public Schools, I am compelled to issue a firm rejection of the directive to impose a mandatory moment of silence today at 12:00 p.m. This mandate is inappropriate and would be disruptive to our daily operations.

While we will not participate in this politically charged exercise, we will continue to observe our existing moment of silence as mandated by law, without alteration or addition. During this time, students and staff are free to silently reflect, pray, or meditate in accordance with their own beliefs, without external influence. This practice is both respectful and inclusive, and it preserves the neutrality expected of public schools.

Our focus remains on providing a high-quality, apolitical education that empowers all students to think critically and independently—values that should be championed by educational leaders.
