Sperry High School Football Team Takes State Championship!

Thursday, December 6th, in a game that made Sperry school history, Sperry Pirate fans braved the cold to cheer the High School football team on to success over the Beggs Demons.  As many as 5,000 fans of these top-rated teams were on hand at Owasso High School’s football stadium for the event.  After losing to the Demons in the regular season, the Pirates were in full force Thursday.

Beggs grabbed a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter, but on the kickoff return, Sperry began their comeback with a 64-yeard return by senior Kyle Jobe that tied up the game.  Not long after that, senior quarterback Beau Teel dashed across the goal line from yard out, providing the Pirates with the lead.  Just before halftime, Teel scored again, and from that point on, it was a Pirate-controlled game.

The game ended in a Sperry victory over Beggs, 35-14.

Teel, who finished the game with 168 combined passing and rushing yards, finished his Sperry High School career with over 10,000 total yards.  The Pirate defense forced three turnovers from the Demons, two by junior Kohlby Foster and the other by junior Cooper Park.

The road to the championship game led the Pirates through four playoff games.  The Pirates have controlled the field throughout the playoffs, starting with their 68 to 13 victory over the Wildcats of Salina on November 9.  The next week, the Kellyville Ponies fell to the Pirates in a 49-7 match. The Eufaula Ironheads took a 44 to 13 beating from the Pirates on November 23.  On November 30, the Pirates dominated the Adair Warriors in a 56 to 8 semi-final game in Claremore.
